Shri Omkareshwar and Mamleshwar temples, dedicated to Lord Shiva, are one of the 12 Jyotirlings of India. It is around 140 kms from Sri Mahakaleshwar, Ujjain. I took a local government bus from Ujjain to reach these temples.

• Jyotirlinga: The temple houses one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, which are the holiest shrines of Lord Shiva. The lingam at Omkareshwar is revered as Omkareshwar, symbolizing the divine form of Shiva as the Lord of Omkara (the sound of the universe).
• Architectural Beauty: The temple exhibits traditional Hindu architecture with intricately carved pillars, sanctums, and a grand dome. The temple complex is located on an island in the shape of the sacred Hindu symbol Om (ॐ), adding to its spiritual significance.
• Location and Scenic Beauty: Situated on the banks of the Narmada River, the temple offers breathtaking views and a serene environment. The river surrounds the island, creating a natural moat that enhances the temple’s picturesque setting.
• Spiritual Significance: According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva appeared in the form of Omkareshwar to bless his devotees and establish the sanctity of the site. The island itself is considered sacred, and the waters of the Narmada are believed to possess purifying properties.
• Mamleshwar Temple: Located on the southern bank of the Narmada River, Mamleshwar Temple is considered to be an integral part of the Jyotirlinga of Omkareshwar. Both temples together form the complete Jyotirlinga, and pilgrims visit both to complete their spiritual journey.
• Festivals and Celebrations: Major festivals celebrated at the temple include Maha Shivaratri, Kartik Purnima, and Navratri. During these festivals, the temple is beautifully decorated, and special rituals and cultural programs are organized, attracting thousands of devotees.
