Jagannath Temple dedicated to Lord Jagannath, a form of Vishnu, Subhadra (sister of Krishna) and Balaram. It is one of the four sacred Hindu pilgrimage sites called the Chardham. I took a direct flight from Mumbai to Bhubaneshwar. Shree Jagannath Temple is approx. 60 kms from Bhubaneshwar airport.

The Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha, is one of the most significant and sacred Hindu temples in India. It is dedicated to Lord Jagannath, a form of Lord Vishnu, and is part of the Char Dham pilgrimage, which also includes Badrinath, Dwarka, and Rameswaram.

During this festival, the deities are placed on large, elaborately decorated chariots and pulled through the streets of Puri by thousands of devotees. • Mahaprasad: The temple is renowned for its Mahaprasad, the sacred food offered to the deities and then distributed to the devotees. The food is cooked in earthen pots using traditional methods and is believed to be blessed by the deities.
• Historical Significance: The temple’s history dates back to the 12th century when it was built by King Anantavarman Chodaganga Deva of the Eastern Ganga dynasty. It has been a major center of worship and pilgrimage for centuries.
• Legends and Myths: The temple is surrounded by numerous legends and myths, including the story of the temple’s origin, which is linked to the divine vision of King Indradyumna, who saw Lord Jagannath in his dreams and subsequently built the temple.
